WEGO Couriers provide ‘Clean Air Delivery’ services across key UK cities. They offer sustainable and cost-effective transportation, using ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs). They first started using electric vehicles in 2003 with the aim of reducing harmful traffic pollution. Currently, they regularly deliver a wide range of items from letters, packets and parcels to medical supplies.
WEGO utilise ULEVs in order to cover ‘Last Mile’ deliveries and in total the van fleet is 50% environmentally friendly with the aim of achieving 100% by end of 2017. Their couriers testify that the driving experience in an electric vehicle is smoother, quieter and more relaxing, given that there are no gear changes and the way in which you operate the vehicle is done to maximise efficiency and conserve energy.
“There is a considerable cost saving involved as we are using energy efficient electricity, which is cheaper than fossil fuels. Furthermore, grid energy is becoming more sustainable due to the increase in production methods such as solar and wind power”
A recent landmark report from the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) has set out the dangerous impact air pollution is having on the UK’s health – with around 40,000 deaths a year linked to air pollution. (Source: Royal College of Physicians – February 2016.) ”With ULEVs there are no tailpipe emissions, which is why we will continue to champion and increase our use of them in city centres” – WEGO
